Welcome to the 2025 - 2026 School Year

Posted Date: 08/03/25 (08:46 PM)

Happy August,

For our new families, I’d like to take a moment to introduce myself—I'm Brandi McMillan, the assistant principal here at Burnett. This will be my fifth year serving as assistant principal, and my 20th year with Milpitas Unified School District. I began my career as a primary teacher, working with first through third graders, and later became an instructional coach supporting fellow educators in their teaching practice. Five years ago, I stepped into school leadership, and it has been such a joy to be part of the Burnett community. I'm truly excited about the year ahead and look forward to meeting and connecting with all of you very soon!

I hope that everyone has been making the most of their summer break! It’s hard to believe, but August is here—and in just 10 days, we’ll be kicking off an exciting new school year!

Here are a few helpful updates as we prepare for 2025–2026:

📌 Supply List: We’ve included a suggested donation list based on teacher requests. These items are completely optional—every student will have the supplies they need. If you're able to contribute, we’d be so grateful! Many stores like Target and Walmart are offering back-to-school deals right now.

📅 Burnett Calendar (First Draft): The attached calendar outlines important dates for the school year. It’s still a draft, so please keep in mind that there may be a few changes.

👕 Common Dress Guidelines: Our common dress policy is also attached.

📮 Save the Date: Keep an eye out for your postcard invitation to our Welcome Back/Meet the Teacher Night on Tuesday, August 12th! To join us, make sure your annual registration is complete—just visit go.musd.org to get started.

More back-to-school updates are coming soon right here on ParentSquare, so stay tuned!

With excitement,
Ms. McMillan
